#Luma masking in capture one pro 12 software#

Since I use C1 mostly, my interest is in what this software can do, not others! I am aware of the luminosity blending mode in Photoshop, but donвЂ™t use PS much and donвЂ™t know whether you can create masks on raw files there. So luminosity means tonal range? Really? рџ¤« What other layer and raw based software let you вЂњcreate the laterвЂќ etc. This is not something new.Its been there in other software well before your recent excitement though with different naming. Bingo!! You can lift shadow, recover highlights, desaturate colors, alter WB etc. This is not rocket science! What it does it let you design what part of tonal range do you want to work on.Create the later and decide on Luma Range you want to work on. Here is a Capture One 12 video showing you how this works. Step two: add a filled layer and push the slider on the right (near 255) to the left until the mask covers what you want to eliminate (screenshot here showing the mask). Possibly a bit on the long side for extensive processing BUT (!!!!!!!!) since the luminosity mask can be cut & pasted, it will add a lot - imo of course - to landscape photographers workflow, macro comes to mind but also portrait photography. Since I did a quick clean up of the mask the actual processing time took me around 2 minutes. Here is a quick example as to what this mask actually does. OK I had a little play with the mask and found it incredibly useful - for what I do/want!!!!! Or wanted it!! (possibly often enough the more accurate term to use anyway) I asked a good friend of mine today whether he understood the luminosity mask in C1, he said he wouldn't have the foggiest idea, so in short, he didn't know that he needed it.
